In the meantime the vet sent me home with this advise....
Keep her weight up where it is.
Keep her warm at all times.
Have her beak and nails trimmed regularly.
Keep her on the same diet.
Love her even when she goes completely bald (no probs there )
Watch for secondary infections.
******************************************************
She has always been on a balanced diet, including fresh daily greens,
consisting of one of the following:
Brocolli, cabbage, silverbeet, corn off the cob, milk weed, apple, pear, peach etc.
She also has shelled sunflower seeds daily.
She is overweight.  In this instance that is good.

Recieving the news I burst out crying, right there in the vet surgery.
So began the quest to save Manau,  I do not want to lose my best buddy.
These are the steps I have taken at present:
Cage, perch, ladder, toys everything she owns was completely disinfected yesterday.
New *"sock buddy" put on her.
Watered down betadine/aloe sprayed onto injured feathers. (this to be repeated daily)
Lots and lots of cuddles.
MANAU'S DIAGNOSIS
"At first I thought she was plucking by herself,
also as we were heading into summer
I concluded we were into a natual moult,
losing her crest was also put down to this".

The vet ordered the test kit, a special kind had to be sent down from Sydney.
A blood sample had to be taken and placed on the paper and a new feather extracted and placed in the special cylinder, then this had to be sent back to Sydney.
The results took at least 3 weeks to come back.
Beak healing from accident
Top mandible
sits to right
All was fine, she was healing nicely from the accident.  Her beak was looking great, then out of the blue, the bottom snapped right down the centre.  I thought it was split from the accident.  She started to lose feathers, at first I thought she was plucking by herself, also as we were heading into summer I concluded we were into a natural moult, losing her crest was also put down to this.
I took her to the vets, her beak needed trimming, it was not healing like I thought it would, eating was becoming difficult for her.
At this point I had never heard of PBFD.
I was soon to find out about this deadly virus, it's symptoms and the outcome for my dearly loved bird.

Downy underfeathers growing in
TEST FOR PSITTACINE BEAK AND FEATHER DISEASE (PBFD)
Result: POSITIVE - Circoviral DNA was detected in the blood sample. Birds that test positive without showing clinical signs should be re-tested after 90 days.
As this bird is showing clinical signs there is no need for retesting.
Crest feathers still intact
Happy and dancing
Beak snapped on bottom
RESULTS  ARE  BACK
Almost back to full splendour
